A middle-aged Chinese woman was waiting for a train at the N/R/W train station on 23rd Street in Manhattan on Tuesday when a white woman punched her in the face, knocking the contact lens out of her left eye. Police are currently investigating it as a possible hate crime.

The victim, Gladys Chen, told ABC Television on Thursday that she and her sister walked into the uptown platform of the N/R/W subway station at West 23rd Street in Midtown Manhattan around noon on Tuesday when she saw a white woman who appeared angry and clearly mentally ill. So she made a point of walking to the opposite corner of the platform. But the suspect sneaked up on her and before she had time to react he swung his fist at her face. With such force that her left contact lens was blown off and her nostril bled.

The victim said she and her sister were the only Asian people around at the time and did not say a word during the attack.

According to police, the suspect is described as a 5-foot-4 white woman with brown hair and a ponytail, weighing 180 pounds. Police are investigating the case as a possible hate attack.
