A man has been charged with assaulting a South Korean couple who were waiting for an Uber ride in Manhattan earlier this summer.

Boston resident Marc Jensen, 33, has been charged with hate crime and aggravated harassment in connection with the May 23 incident, according to prosecutors.

Authorities said the couple were waiting for a bus on West 32nd Street in Midtown around 1:30 a.m. when Jensen allegedly walked up to them, spat in the wife's face and yelled anti-China remarks at her.

Jensen then allegedly pulled the 39-year-old husband from his Uber car and beat him. Prosecutors said the husband had cuts on his knees and forehead and an elbow injury. The 39-year-old wife was not physically assaulted, police said.

Prosecutors said Jensen was arrested after police received an anonymous tip through a Crimestoppers hotline.

"Mark Jensen made hateful anti-China remarks and then physically assaulted the couple as they prepared to return home from dinner in Manhattan," Manhattan prosecutor Alvin Bragg said.
